PA Weather: Severe Thunderstorms, Flash Flooding Possible Friday
Severe thunderstorms, fierce winds, heavy rain and flash flooding are all in the cards for parts of PA on Friday. Here's what to expect:
PENNSYLVANIA — A swath of wet weather is expected to hit the Keystone State Friday ahead of a sunny summer weekend, forecasters said.
Severe thunderstorms, fierce winds, heavy rain and flash flooding are all possible as several storms hit Pennsylvania throughout the day on Friday, according to the National Weather Service.
There’s a risk of a flash flooding threat across the Keystone State as several rounds of storms are projected to hit the region from Friday morning into the evening, said forecasters with Accuweather and the National Weather Service.

"Even moderate amounts of rainfall could renew flooding problems on area streams," said Accuweather in their rain outlook for Northeastern states.
“One round of storms has been moving through the area early this morning and will move offshore by around mid morning,” the National Weather Service's Mount Holly station said in a statement. “However, additional storms will be possible this afternoon and could produce more severe weather along with the threat of flash flooding.”

The Weather Channel also lists a marginal risk of severe weather Friday in southeast Pennsylvania, with high humidity and clouds hanging over as the threat of rain persists throughout the day.
As of 8 a.m., there’s a hazardous weather outlook in effect through Friday night for 10 Pennsylvania counties. The affected counties are:
- Monroe
- Lehigh
- Northampton
- Delaware
- Philadelphia
- Chester
- Montgomery
- Bucks
- Sullivan
- Pike

There’s also a marginal risk of flash flooding and severe weather in the above counties on Friday, the weather service said.
“Several instances of flooding are possible, especially in urban and poor-drainage areas and near vulnerable small creeks and streams,” the weather service said.
Accuweather added that the risk of rain triggering flash flooding on Friday "will extend from eastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey through eastern New York and northwestern New England."
The last rounds of storms are expected to clear out by Friday night, making way for sunny skies with a high near 85 on Saturday. The beach weather will continue into Sunday with highs around 86, where temperatures will linger early next week.

Friday: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly between 8 a.m. and noon. Some storms could be severe, with damaging winds, gusty winds, and heavy rain. Patchy fog before 9 a.m. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a high near 87. South wind 5 to 10 mph becoming southwest in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.
Friday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 69. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph.
Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 85. West wind 5 to 15 mph.
Saturday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 69. West wind around 5 mph.
Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 86. Light and variable wind becoming south 5 to 10 mph in the afternoon.
Sunday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 72.
