Ambler Council Debates Institutional Zoning

The text amendment to the Borough's Zoning Code was sent back to the Council.

After a text amendment to allow low impact businesses into the institutional district was shot down by the Ambler Borough Planning Commission, the Ambler Borough Council had to return to the drawing board so that the borough would not be left with a number of vacant buildings that tenets cannot be found for.

According to the Ambler Gazette, the planning commission suggested that businesses who want to move into the institutional zone should apply for conditional us, and did not want to change the wording in the zoning ordinance because, "If one business enters an institutional district, soon many businesses will do so."

Council debated other uses for vacant buildings in the institutional zone, or other ways to amend the zoning ordinance that the Planning Commission would approve.
