Bottom Dollar to Kick in $27,000 for Water Main Extension

The new Bottom Dollar Food Store will kick in $27,000 for a water main extension to the site, with the borough on the hook for any additional money.

The development of the Bottom Dollar Food Store in Ambler will require fire service for the building, and the Borough's water line in the area will not be able to service the building.

Bottom Dollar is kicking in $27,000 towards the cost of enlarging the borough's water main on Park Ave. that crosses over Butler and onto Race St. Borough Manager Mary Aversa explained at Tuesday's Borough Council meeting that they borough received quotes to extend the water main and $27,000 was the price quoted.

Anything over the $27,000, the borough will have to pay.

Aversa added that the possible cost is worth it to the borough to extend the line and for the higher pressure on Race Street.

Once the water main is installed, the borough will be responsible for the water main.

Borough solicitor, Joseph Bresnan said there is no fire service to the building though it is required by law. Bottom Dollar Food Stores has looked into installing an onsite pump for the building, which would cost the company $30,000.

Bresnan said the option to extend the water main from Lindenwold St. up to Race St. made the most sense financially for Bottom Dollar Food Store and it also benefits the borough.
