How Did MCCC, Gwynedd Mercy Do on College Scorecard?

The White House released the College Scorecard, with looks at loan repayment, costs, graduation rates and more of the nations colleges, including Gwynedd Mercy College and Montgomery County Community College.

After President Barack Obama's State of the Union Address in February, the White House has released the College Scorecard.

According to the WhiteHouse.gov website, "College Scorecards in the U.S. Department of Education’s College Affordability and Transparency Center make it easier for you to search for a college that is a good fit for you."

According to the White House scorecard, in-state students pay a net price of $7,112 a year to attend MCCC, with campuses in Blue Bell and Pottstown. This is down 4.6 percent from the 2007 to 2009 costs and considered "low" on the scorecard's scale.

Families typically borrow an average of $8,563 for the undergraduate study at MCCC, with student loan payments of approximately $98.54 a month over 10 years.

However, 13.3 percent of borrowers who graduate from MCCC default on their Federal student loans, just .1 percent under the national average.

According to the scorecard, 11.6 percent of students graduated within 150 percent of the expected time frame, and 25.8 percent transferred to another institution. 

Gwynedd Mercy College

Gwynedd Mercy College students, after grants and scholarships, pay a net price of $20,595 a year to attend the Lower Gwynedd college, considered "medium" on the scorecard chart. This is an increase  of 14.5 percent from the 2007 to 2009 costs.

Families typically borrow $22,175 in Federal student loans, with an average monthly payment of $255.19 a month over 10 years. And of the graduating students, an average of 3/4 percent of students default on those Federal loans. The national average for students defaulting on loans is 13.4 percent.

According to the scorecard, 52 percent of Gwynedd Mercy students received their bachelor's degrees within six years.
