Kate Harper Wins Re-Election in 61st District

According to the Ambler Gazette, Republican Kate Harper, and current incumbent for the 61st District of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, has reclaimed her seat in the House.

Harper has served the 61st District since being elected in 2000.

"We had a huge voter turnout," Harper told Montgomeryville-Lansdale Patch editor Tony Di Domizio. "It was not the usual people that are familiar with me. It was a little nerve racking."

Harper called challenger Jo White, who is a medical doctor, "a worthy opponent."

"It looks like I won," Harper said. "I'm very proud to represent my neighbors in the General Assembly and I'm happy to be able to continue to do that."

According to the report, Harper called the election a "performance review" and "is pleased to see her constituents approve of the job she has done so far."

White, focused her campaign on "economic growth, reforming education funding and more regulations on charter schools." She thought she better represented the more moderate constituency in the 61st District.

The 61st District includes parts of Lower Gwynedd, Montgomery, North Wales, Plymouth, Towamencin, Upper Gwynedd and Whitpain Townships.
