Alleged Night-time Burglar Arrested, Alleged Burglary in Whitpain and Other Locations
Edward W. Barnes, Jr., of Philadelphia was arrested for attempted burglary. Other charges are being filed.

Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman reported today that Philadelphia resident Edward W. Barnes, Jr. has been arrested in connection to serial night-time burglaries committed in Montgomery county.
The Whitemarsh Patrol Division identified and arrested Edward W. Barnes, Jr., of the 3400 block of Cottman Avenue, while he was supposedly in possession of a tool for committing burglary and was breaking into the back of a residence in the township on June 22. According to the District Attorney's Office, an investigation revealed that he supposedly committed 20 night-time burglaries and many attempted burglaries over the past year and a half in Whitemarsh, Whitpain, and Conshohocken, as well as a more recent burglary in Northeast Philadelphia.
Before the arrest, police officers gathered intelligence on the defendant’s red Suzuki Esteem and were able to trace it to a location near where Barnes was arrested by Whitemarsh police.

After the arrest, an investigation led to stolen items being recovered from Barnes’s residence, including a laptop. Several electronics were seized.
Barnes is currently behind bars in Montgomery county and is charged with attempted burglary in Whitemarsh. The bail is set at $100,000. He is facing felony charges in Whitpain for burglary, attempted burglary, access device fraud, receiving stolen property and additional related charges.
