Psych Evaluation Needed for Alleged Ambler Assaulter

Thomas Joseph Mitchell, 27, of the 100 block of Park Avenue, was arrested May 7 on assault, resisting arrest and criminal mischief charges, police said.

An Ambler man charged in an alleged assault on May 7 was so erratic, police said, that he had to be taken for a psychiatric observation at Abington Memorial Hospital.

Thomas Joseph Mitchell, 27, of the 100 block of Park Avenue, will answer to two misdemeanor simple assault, misdemeanor resisting arrest and misdemeanor criminal mischief by damaging property charges by Ambler Police, following his release, police said.

Police responded to Mitchell's home at 9:17 p.m. May 7 for a domestic disturbance, police said.

Due to his erratic behavior, a psychiatric evaluation was needed, police said.

Mitchell has been tried six times in Montgomery County Court of Common Pleas for criminal charges between October 2004 and October 2011.

Mitchell's most recent sentence was one year probation in January 2012 for a misdemeanor drug possession guilty plea stemming from an Ambler arrest in 2011, according to court records.
