Wissahickon Education Alliance provides information on the WEA-S contract negotiations.

Editor's note: This information has been provided by Wissahickon Education Alliance.
Today the WEA decided to rescind the Strike scheduled for Monday October 29th. Although we have received tremendous support from members and the parents of this community, we do understand that a work stoppage is very difficult for everyone. While we retain our right to call for a strike with 48 hours notice.
On Thursday, the Bureau of Mediation responded to our request to assist us. We are grateful for this assistance and owe it to this community to at least try one more time to compromise. It is our hope, that the Board utilizes this time to rethink the hard line position they have taken with their employees. Rethink their position with regards to subcontracting out 235 members and realizes that employees with and average salary of 28,000 per year do in fact deserve a "fair" cost of living increase to offset inflation.

Hopefully, this process will work because a compromise is all we really seek, it is all we have ever asked from the Board.
