UPDATE: Driver in Tuesday Night Hit and Run Apprehended

UPDATE 1:10 p.m.: Lower Gwynedd Police Chief John Scholly told Ambler Patch in an e-mail that the vehicle was located in northeast Philadelphia late on Tuesday evening and the Montgomery County Detectives and Lower Gwynedd Police have a person of interest who could have been operating the vehicle in regards to the hit and run accident that occurred Tuesday evening on Bethlehem Pike in Lower Gwynedd.

The accident is still under investigation. However, upon completion of the investigation, Scholly said that the Montgomery County District Attorney's office will review the facts and evidence in the case, and determine the appropriate course of action.

From Lower Gwynedd Township Police:

On September 25 at 5:30 p.m., Lower Gwynedd Township Police Department responded to a report of an accident involving a car and a bicycle underneath his car as he drove away.

Police arrived on scene and found the operator of the bicycle, an 11 year old male, lying on his back on the shoulder of northbound Bethlehem Pike. The male was flown from the scene to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia for treatment of his injuries by PennStar helicopter.

According to the hospital the male is being treated for non life threatening injuries.

The operator of the striking vehicle, a 47 year old make from the 6600 block of Monteque St. in Phildelphia, was apprehended later in the evening and the investigation is ongoing.

Police were assisted on scene by Wissahickon Fire Company, Ambler Ambulance Company, Montgomery Township Fire Department and Fort Washington Fire Company and the Montgomery County Detective Bureau.
