Wissahickon High School Graduation Postponed to Friday
Severe weather reports forced the school to reschedule graduation for the safety of students, staff and families.

Wissahickon High School graduates will have to wait one more day before moving the tassels.
Wissahickon School District Superintendent Judith M. Clark informed families Wednesday afternoon that graduation is postponed to 6 p.m. Friday.
Clark wrote on the district website that, under normal circumstances, graduation would take place either on the high school field or indoors in the even of inclement weather.

"This developing weather event, however is shaping up to be anything but 'normal,'" wrote Clark.
She said the threat of severe thunderstorms, hail, damaging winds, flooding and possible tornadoes affects the safety of students, staff and the community. Furthermore, there may be widespread power outages, which would affect an indoor graduation.

"It is not advisable to hold an event of this magnitude and importance with the threat of severe weather in our community," Clark wrote on the website.
Steve Beck, school safety coordinator for Montgomery County Department of Public Safety, and local police departments concurred with the district's decision.
"I know that this may create an inconvenience for some of our families who have visitors traveling from out of town, however, I cannot risk the safety of our students and families. Graduation is an important culminating activity. It is our hope that by making the change to Friday we will be able to have the ceremony in a safe situation that is memorable and meaningful for all," wrote Clark.
