New B-W School District-Centered Internship Approved

The Baldwin-Whitehall School Board on April 10 approved a number of items Wednesday, including a new internship, new textbooks.

Baldwin-Whitehall School Board held a public voting meeting Wednesday, April 10. Below are the results of several items voted on at that meeting:

  • The school board unanimously approved student Nicholas A. McCall to participate in the Steel Center Students' Internship at the Baldwin-Whitehall School District Bus Garage from noon to 4 p.m., and for student Sean M. Meyer to participate in the same internship program from 8 a.m. to noon. The students will participate in the internship four days a week, for a total of 16 hours at $10 per hour, from April 15 through June 7. Superintendent Randal Lutz said this is a new program in the district, created to provide Baldwin-Whitehall students with internships at Baldwin-Whitehall facilities.
  • The substitute teacher list addendum for the 2012-13 school year was approved by an 8-1 vote. School board member Martin Michael Schmotzer voted against the motion.
  • The extracurricular activity assignments list addendum for the 2012-13 school year was approved by a 5-4 vote. School board members Schmotzer, Nancy DiNardo, Diana Kazour and Larry Pantuso voted against the motion.
  • The school board unanimously approved the purchase of AP Economics textbooks for the 2013-14 school year, at a cost of $4,122.82.
  • The school board unanimously voted to renew agreements between the District and Renaissance Learning, Inc. for technical services for Accelerated Reader and STAR Math from June 1 through May 31, 2014, at a renewal cost of $14,490.33.
  • The school board unanimously approved the proposed 2013-14 Allegheny Intermediate Unit Program of Services Budget. The Budget totals $3,809,028, and Baldwin-Whitehall School District's expected contribution to the budget is $51,653.24. 
  • The board unanimously approved the 2013-14 School Calendar. The first day of school for students will be August 26, 2013 and the last day of school for students will be June 6, 2014. Graduation Day is set for Tuesday, June 3, 2014.
