U.S. Supreme Court Intervenes In Pittsburgh Case
A United States Supreme Court justice has issued a key ruling in a case involving a well-known Pittsburgh business.
PITTSBURGH, PA — A U.S. Supreme Court justice has granted an emergency application by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette involving its years-long labor dispute and strike by its editorial staff.
Justice Samuel Alioto on Monday issued a stay on an injunction request newspaper filed in a lawsuit against the National Labor Relations Board following a November ruling by the 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals in favor of the strikers, some of whom walked the picket lines for more than three years.
That ruling declared that the newspaper acted in bad faith during ongoing negotiations for a new contract and ordered that stalled negotiations resume. The Newspaper Guild of Pittsburgh considered the ruling a win and the remaining strikers, which had decreased in numbers as the strike progressed, returned to work.
