Car Flips into Baldwin Shop 'n Save Parking Lot

Investigation ongoing to determine if the driver was impaired.

Three men were taken to UPMC Mercy Hospital early on Sunday morning after their car went over a guardrail, into a utility pole, flipped and landed in the parking lot along Joseph Street in north .

Chief Michael Scott said that he does not know if the driver was impaired when he failed to negotiate a hard left bend while coming down the hilly Joseph Street between Steiner and John streets shortly before 2 a.m.

The grocery store was closed at the time, and no other people are believed to be injured as a result of the crash. And the three men, amazingly, did not suffer life-threatening injuries, Scott said.

Two of the men were able to free themselves from the vehicle, but emergency crews had to cut the driver's seat belt in order to free him.

The driver has been put through a blood test to determine if he was impaired, Scott said. Results of that test are pending.
