2012 CHUCK AND DEBBIE McDEVITT GOLF OUTING

Chuck McDevitt will always be remembered as one of the biggest supporters of West Jefferson Hills School District and athletics.   Chuck lived in West Elizabeth where he was the Mayor and long time council member, as well as, a member of the WJHSD school board.   Chuck was also the head Greens keeper at South Park Golf Course and loved playing golf.  For many, many years, whether it was football, basketball, volleyball, soccer or band outings/musicals … you name it – Chuck, Barb (his wife) and 3 daughters were there to cheer on “the Jaguars”.  As a school board member, Chuck McDevitt was the major force behind the starting of booster organizations to support all athletic team at Thomas Jefferson High School.  Furthermore, he helped push for the beginning of TJ golf at the high school.

Chuck McDevitt passed away from pancreatic cancer in 2002.  However his passion and love for TJ and TJ sports was passed on to all three of his daughters.  It was his middle daughter, Debbie, who took on the reigns, like her father, to support and cheer on the “Jaguar Nation” in all events.  Debbie formed and organized (with the TJ Golf Boosters organization) the beginning of the “Chuck McDevitt Golf Outing” to not only support the golf team, but also to raise money for the American Cancer Society.  With Debbie’s leadership and the support of many faithful friends and sponsors, the yearly golf outings have raised thousands of dollars for cancer research, as well as, funds needed for the golf program.

Sadly this spring, Debbie passed away from her own battle with cancer in her early 50s.  Her wish was to make sure the “Chuck McDevitt Golf Outing” would always continue yearly -- keeping her Father’s legacy going and helping all young adults who love to play golf!   This is why the TJ golf team and booster organization is so supportive to have this yearly golf outing to give back to a charity and help other people who suffer from cancer like Chuck and Debbie McDevitt.

On October 21, 2012 the TJ GOLF TEAM will be having its “2012 Chuck and Debbie McDevitt Golf Outing” and it will be held at Cedarbrook Golf Course in their honor.  Please consider supporting this wonderful event.  As always, proceeds will be divided between the American Cancer Society and the TJ Golf Boosters Association.
