Fallen Baldwin Native Police Officer To Be Honored
Two communities are marking the one-year anniversary of McKeesport police officer Sean Sluganski's shooting death.
BALDWIN, PA — A candlelight vigil will be held Tuesday to remember McKeesport police officer Sean Sluganski on the first anniversary of his shooting death.
Sluganski was a Baldwin High School graduate.
The vigil will be held from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Candles will be distributed at the borough building auditorium and the vigil will occur near the borough building near the handicapped parking area.

On Feb. 6, 2023, Sluganski and Officer Charles Thomas were dispatched to a domestic-related disturbance call related to a man acting aggressively toward family members. The pair encountered Jonathan Morris, 31, on Grandview Avenue in McKeesport and a gunfire exchange ensued.
Sluganski, 32, was killed; Williams and Morris were injured. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty against Morris.

A memorial ceremony also will occur in McKeesport at 5 p.m. Participants will include Mayor Michael Cherepko, McKeesport police chief Mark Steele and members of the Slugansk family.
