Grenades, Guns, Detonators: Pittsburgh Man Had Weapons Arsenal
A Pittsburgh man has pleaded guilty to violating federal firearms and explosives laws.
WHITEHALL, PA —A Whitehall man who Cofano mahad a variety of destructive devices at his disposal pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court to violating three counts of federal firearms and explosives laws.
Kurt Cofano, 32, will be sentenced in December.
According to the acting U.S. Attorney Stephen R. Kaufman's office, he made destructive devices from May 2020 through July 2020.

Mt. Lebanon police saw weapons in plain view in Cofano's vehicle after he waved the officers over to him in July 2020. After obtaining a search warrant, they found in the car detonators, triggers, and fuses; short-barreled long guns; ammunition and marijuana.
At Cofano’s residence, authorities found 14 improvised grenades and nine devices labeled
“M101,” as well as other components for making destructive devices. Marijuana and drug paraphernalia also were recovered.

Cofano faces up to 10 years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000 and up to three years of supervised release for each count. He remains behind bars pending sentencing.
