Armed Man Shot To Death In Confrontation With Police In Whitehall

Police shot and killed a man who opened fire on them Tuesday morning while they attempted to serve a warrant in Whitehall.

WHITEHALL, PA — An armed man was shot to death by police officers attempting to serve a warrant in Whitehall Tuesday morning.

The incident occurred shortly after 6 a.m. on the 1800 block of Parkline Drive.

According to Allegheny County police, agents with the Pennsylvania Attorney General's Gun Violence Task Force were executing the search warrant targeting illegal firearms inside an apartment building.

When officers attempted to enter the apartment, an armed man fired multiple shots at them. The man and the officers momentarily retreated. The man then re-emerged with two firearms and opened fire. Multiple agents returned fire, striking the man, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 54-year-old man has not been identified.

No officers were harmed, and officials said there is no danger to the public.
