McKEESPORT, PA — A state representative and a successful business owner are vying to replace state Sen. Jim Brewster in Pennsylvania's 45th Senate District. Brewester, of McKeesport, is retiring after serving in the Senate since 2010.

Democratic Rep. Nick Pisciottano, who has served in the House since 2021, is squaring off against Jen Dintini of Plum, the owner of security companies Am-Gard Inc. and 3G Security Solutions.

Pisciottano, of West Mifflin, said he is focused on good schools, safe communities, creating economic opportunities and protecting people's rights.

Pisciottano knows the communities in the 45th District very well. His family has called the Mon Valley home since before the Civil War.

“I went into public service to make sure the next generation has the opportunity to succeed here like I did," he said. "That means good schools for every kid, safe communities, and good jobs that pay a fair wage. That’s what I fight for in the state House and I want to take that fight to the state Senate.

Dintini said her priorities are economic growth that creates family-sustaining jobs with good benefits; a public safety plan that supports police and protects communities; ensuring schools are fully funded; and confronting the community’s mental health crisis by eliminating barriers to mental health resources.

“We can’t send the same types of politicians to Harrisburg and expect to get different results," Dintini states on her campaign website. "I am a small business owner and a mother who will fight to ensure we are no longer forgotten.”

Pisciottano has been endorsed by Gov. Josh Shapiro, Brewster, numerous state Democrats and a number of labor unions. Dintini's endorsements include Senate president pro tempore Kim Ward and the Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry.

The 45th District covers 37 communities in the Mon Valley and areas south and east of Pittsburgh.
