PHOTOS: Fire-Damaged Car Removed from Baldwin Lot

A heavily burnt (and melted) car sat for a few days in a parking lot along the 5200 block of Wolfe Drive in south  this past week. (See media gallery.)

The car has since been towed away, management from said, because it should not have been left there in such bad shape.

The car does belong to a resident of the complex, but keeping it in the lot in its condition was a violation of borough code, said Mark Vierheller, a site manager for the company that owns The Residences.

The owner of the car reported that the car's engine caught fire while it was away from the complex, both Vierheller and  Chief Michael Scott said. The owner then had the car towed back to the complex.

Vierheller stressed that leaving cars in such condition on the complex's property is not acceptable.

The owner of the car is investigating what caused the engine fire, Vierheller said.
