Accused 'Porch Pirate' Arrested In Bensalem

BENSALEM, PA — Police in Bensalem have arrested a man they say stole packages off of the porches of three residents.

Hector Martinez, 54, (a.k.a. Ildelfonso Baez) is charged with theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property, police announced Thursday.

According to police, Martinez stole numerous packages in Bensalem and Philadelphia while driving a gray Mercedes Benz SUV. Some of the thefts were captured on home surveillance video, which helped identify Martinez as the thief, police said.

On Wednesday, Philadelphia Police saw Martinez getting out of his SUV with an Amazon package. When officers approached him, police said, they found numerous packages inside the vehicle with Bensalem and Philadelphia addresses.

He was arrested and turned over to Bensalem Police, who plan to execute a search warrant to further investigate the case. Residents with names on the stolen packages will be contacted by police.

On Thursday, police encouraged victims of package thefts to report the theft to police. Surveillance camera videos played a major role in this arrest and victims are encouraged to submit them when they've been victims, police said.
