Bensalem Man Killed In Head-On Crash

The crash happened shortly after noon Monday at the intersection of Bristol Pike and Hulmeville Road.

BENSALEM, PA — A Bensalem man was killed in a head-on crash Monday afternoon, according to police.

The crash happened at 12:18 p.m. at the intersection of Bristol Pike and Hulmeville Road.

According to Bensalem Township Police, officers arrived to find Ronald Swanson, 40, of Cedar Avenue, trapped inside his 2006 Nissan Altima with serious injuries. Firefighters and an EMS crew were able to remove the car's door and pull Swanson out.

He was taken to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital, where he died from his injuries, police said.

The driver of a 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe SUV also was injured in the crash and taken to the hospital for treatment. Police on Tuesday were not releasing identifying information about that man.

According to police, the SUV was being driven southbound on Rt. 13 as Swanson's Nissan was headed northbound. As they approached the intersection with Hulmeville Road, the SUV crossed the center turning lane, entered oncoming traffic and struck Swanson's car head-on, police said.

Bensalem Police have taken blood samples from both drivers to see if drugs or alcohol were a contributing factor in the crash. Anyone with information in the case is asked to call Bensalem Police at 215-633-3719.
