Bensalem Week in Review

Week of Jan. 9-15

This week in Bensalem saw snow, snow rage, more snow, a local lottery winner, and some school news including a proposed budget and impending teacher contract negotiations.

Sunday: We cleared out from a winter storm that arrived Saturday only to prepare for the third winter storm of the season, which came a couple days later.

Monday: The week started with Bucks County Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick holding a town hall meeting in Doylestown to discuss health care. He said he favors the repeal of “Obama-care.” Also Monday, the students of St. Charles Borromeo School sang patriotic songs at Bensalem’s Council meeting.

Tuesday: We reported that a $250,000 from the Jan. 7 drawing was sold at Bensalem Beer & Soda on Street Road.

Wedneday: Bensalem woke up to another significant winter storm snowfall. District schools were closed as the area received about seven inches of the white stuff. Also, a local man was arrested in a “” incident after he pulled a gun on a contractor who plowed his car in.

Thursday: Patch reported on a Wednesday evening school board meeting in which the district unveiled its preliminary . Local property owners are facing a $40 tax hike. School officials also said are set to begin. Superintendent William Gretzula explained that the school board last month hired professional negotiator Michael Levin.

Friday: Patch contributor Vic Monaco wrote a feature story on , which has stores in Philadelphia and Bensalem, and is likely the longest running music store in the area.

Saturday: A 59-year-old female by a vehicle while trying to cross Street Road near Brookwood Drive. Bensalem police said the victim was homeless and living out of her car. Police do not believe drugs or alcohol contributed to the accident.
