The Philadelphia District Attorney’s office said Murphy not only threatened the baby and the mother of his child, but also an intervening good Samaritan.
The incident began when Murphy pulled out a gun during a domestic argument with the baby’s mother and threatened her life, the life of the baby and his own, 6abc reported. Murphy then allegedly kidnapped the woman and child and drove them to the Cottman Avenue Interstate 95 exit in Philadelphia.

Murphy grabbed the baby and threatened to throw the child off the overpass, 6abc added, citing the DA’s office.
The good Samaritan, identified by Levittown Now as Christine King of Bensalem, intervened before police arrived.
“I saw that the man grabbed the baby and tried to throw her over the bridge,” King told NBC 10. “That’s when I hit the brakes on my car and went out to stop him.”
Murphy still wielded the child when police arrived at the scene; officers were able to take the baby safely, 6abc reported. Murphy resisted arrest, 6abc added, as well as assaulted a state police trooper before he was taken into police custody.
Murphy is currently being held on 10 percent of $1.5 million bail at Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility, per Levittown Now. He is also ordered to stay away from the mother and child and must undergo a mental health evaluation.
