Local Trucking Company Closes
Atkinson Freight couldn't compete with national carriers.

, a Bensalem trucking company operating since 1885, has gone out of business.
According to PhillyBurbs, the owners of the family business are citing rising costs, competition and pressure to reduce rates as reasons for the closure.
"I was losing customers to national carriers over a period of time," owner Joe Atkinson told PhillyBurbs. "My ability to compete with them diminished, fuel and tolls continue to rise, and other costs that are out of my control continue to rise."

The closure affects about 40 union drivers and 19 owner/operators.
