Officer Shoots Motorcyclist While Responding To Road Rage In Bucks County: Police

The motorcyclist was armed with a gun when the officer shot him, police said.

BENSALEM, PA — An officer shot an armed motorcyclist while responding to a road rage incident Saturday evening in Bensalem, according to police.

Police received a 911 call around 5:45 p.m. from a driver who reported that a motorcyclist had pointed a gun at him on Bristol Pike near Biddle Lane and that the motorcyclist was following the driver northbound, authorities said.

A nearby officer found the two vehicles stopped in traffic in the area of Bristol Pike and Appleton Avenue, according to police. The officer pulled his patrol vehicle between the car and the motorcycle, exited it, and came around the rear of his vehicle to find the motorcyclist on foot and holding a gun, police said.

“The officer issued commands, but the motorcyclist did not comply,” according to a Bensalem Police Department news release. “The Bensalem Officer discharged his weapon and struck him; he fell to the ground.”

The motorcyclist was taken to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital, where he had surgery for his gunshot wounds, police said, adding he was in guarded condition as of Saturday night.

His handgun was recovered from the scene, according to police.

The Bucks County District Attorney’s Office is investigating the incident, police said.
