Security Summit Held To Protect Bensalem Houses Of Worship
Bensalem Police and the FBI held the summit to provide insights on potential threats and prepardness.
BENSALEM TOWNSHIP, PA — With attacks becoming more prominent throughout the country, authorities wanted to ensure that the township's houses of worship are prepared to protect their congregations.
The Bensalem Township Police Department and the FBI Philadelphia Field Division hosted a presentation last week to provide insight into potential threats, situational awareness, preparedness, and response both locally and nationally.
Organizers said the presentation also served as a platform for open discussion, allowing law enforcement to collaborate on strategies to protect religious institutions against active threats.

Over 80 people representing 20 different faith-based houses of worship attended the training presentation, police said.
"Although they all practice different religious beliefs, they're all united in their efforts to keep their congregations safe," police said.

The FBI addressed both national and international acts of terrorism and threats, and Bensalem Police personnel focused on local threats and response.
FBI and Bensalem Police presented a unified message on best safety practices of reporting suspicious activity to law enforcement promptly and creating the safest environment for their congregants to practice their faith.
Bensalem Mayor Joe DiGirolamo and Township Council members Michelle BenÃtez and Stacey Champion also attended.
