BENSALEM, PA — State Rep. Gene DiGirolamo will step down from his post to take a new position as a member of the Bucks County Board of Commissioners. But, he announced Thursday, his Bensalem office will remain open to handle constituent needs.

The district office is located at 2424 Bristol Rd. in Neshaminy Commons.

In November, DiGirolamo, who has represented the Bensalem area in Harrisburg for more than two decades, was one of three candidates elected to the county commission. He will become the lone Republican on the board, which will be controlled by Democrats for the first time in decades.

"It has been an honor to serve the residents, and I appreciate their support over the years," DiGirolamo said Thursday in a written statement. "When I came to Harrisburg, my goals were to advocate for the positions of those in Bucks County and assist the neediest throughout the Commonwealth who desired a helping hand. I think I accomplished both objectives. While I will miss the legislature, I look forward to continuing my public service in a different capacity."

He also thanked his district staff for their service helping local residents with state-related matters.
