Thief Caught After Stealing Kitten From Bensalem Pet Store: PD

BENSALEM TOWNSHIP, PA — A kitten has returned unharmed to a township pet store after being snatched by a woman on Saturday, police said.

Bensalem Police were called to Pets Plus at 1336 Bristol Pike for the report of a theft of a British Shorthaired kitten.

Surveillance video (see below) captured a woman entering the animal cage area with a large bag over her shoulder, police said. A short time later, she exited with the kitten in the bag, police said.

Bensalem Police identified the woman as Madina Sherkulova, 45, of Bensalem.

Police went to her home and recovered the kitten unharmed, identifying it using an implanted microchip.

Bensalem Police have charged Sherkulova with retail theft. Sherkulova also had an active arrest warrant for a previous retail theft in Bensalem, police said.

District Justice Michael Gallagher arraigned Sherkulova and sent her to the Bucks County Correctional Facility on 10 percent of $150,000 bail.
