Easton Couple Charged in SouthSide Robbery
South Bethlehem woman victimized when two acquaintances drove off with her cash and purse.

An Easton man and woman are facing assorted charges for the daytime robbery of a woman in South Bethlehem that led to a car chase into Freemansburg Tuesday.
Carlos Gonzalez, 35, and Amber Karom, 31, both of 1125 Lehigh St., Easton, are accused of robbing the woman during a visit to the convenience store at 25 E. Morton St. at about 2:30 p.m.

The victim, Charlotte Weaver, 50, a South Bethlehem resident, suffered minor injuries, which were treated at , Fountain Hill. The suspects and victim were apparently acquainted, according to court records quoted in The Express Times.
Gonzalez drove Karom and Weaver to the convenience store where Weaver took $460 out of an ATM machine, handed the money to Karom and went back inside the store to buy cell phone minutes.

Gonzalez and Karom then drove off with the cash and Weaver’s purse while Weaver was still inside the store, according to the report. Weaver ran after the car and grabbed a door handle before falling, resulting in her injuries.
A Good Samaritan who saw that called 911 and city police were quickly in pursuit of the car, ultimately catching the suspects on Main Street in Freemansburg.
Gonzalez and Karom were both charged with robbery, theft, receiving stolen property, conspiracy to commit theft and possession of drug paraphernalia. Gonzalez was also charged with fleeing police. Karom was charged with tampering with evidence.
Both were committed to Northampton County Prison following an arraignment before night duty . Karom’s bail was set at $25,000 and Gonzalez’s was set at $15,000.
