Moravian College Sophomore Vies for Allentown Fair Queen

Victoria Bobyak, a sophomore at Moravian College, is one of three women competing for the title of Allentown Fair Queen.

Finals are Sunday starting 3 p.m. at Christopher’s Restaurant and Banquet Facility at the Columbian Home, 1519 Greenleaf St., Allentown.

Bobyak, 19, is majoring in psychology with a certification in early childhood education. A 2012 graduate of Whitehall High School, she was an honor roll student, recipient of a Lion’s Club scholarship and English student of the year.  

She continued her high school volleyball career at Moravian College, being named the Landmark Conference’s “Rookie of the Year.” She is a member of Alpha Sigma Tau Sorority and volunteers with them for Habitat For Humanity.  

She has worked as a cashier at Wegman’s and at the Student Union service desk at Moravian College. She is the daughter of Caroline and Mike Bobyak of Whitehall.

Also competing are:

—Morgan Reifsneider, 18, of Bechtelsville is a recent graduate of Boyertown Area High School. She will be a freshman at California University of Pennsylvania, majoring in psychology.

At Boyertown High School, Reifsneider was a member of the Key, Leo and No Place For Hate clubs. She has volunteered with The Pittsburgh Project, Fredrick Living Adult Daycare and was a Boyertown Optimist cheerleader. 

She is the daughter of Kathy and Brian Merkel of Bechtelsville. 

—Erin Schantzenbach, 19, of Upper Saucon Township, is a 2012 graduate of Southern Lehigh High School.

Schantzenbach is a member of the Lehigh County 4-H Beef Club and spends time working on her family’s beef farm, according to a release from the Allentown Fair. She also won Reserve Grand Champion Fitter, Supreme Champion Heifer and numerous other 4-H awards. 

She completed the commercial photography program at Lehigh Career & Technical Institute, and she received a Silver Key for a photograph she took for the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. She is the daughter of Victoria and Russell Schantzenbach of Coopersburg.

The Allentown Fair Queen will reign over the 161st fair, which will run Tuesday, Aug. 27 through Labor Day, Sept. 2.

The public is invited to attend the contest finals, which includes an on-stage introduction and a speech presentation on the topic, “Why you should come to The Great Allentown Fair.” Admission is free.

The winner will follow the 2012 title holder, Whitehall resident and Bloomsburg University student Jennifer Mickley.
