Thursday: Come Together at SteelStacks for Beatles Tribute

Happy birthday to Lehigh Valley IronPigs pitching coach Ray Burris, who is turning 63. Burris had a decent 15-year big league career that included two Opening Day starts while he was a member of the Chicago Cubs. Burris and the Pigs are in Buffalo for a game with the Bisons tonight.

Also born on this date in 1920 was one of my personal writing inspirations—the great science fiction and fantasy author Ray Bradbury. His Fahrenheit 451 remains one of the best and most prescient novels of a dystopian future.

Here’s what’s happening in Bethlehem today:

• We will repeat this warning about Wyandotte Street/Route 378 one last time: Give yourself some extra time if you are in South Bethlehem during daytime hours. PennDOT contractors will be milling and paving from Broadway to Black River Road in Lower Saucon Township. There could be alternating lane closures with flagging. The project was due to be completed today.

• With the beginning of school now just four days away, Donegan Elementary School hosts Kindergarten orientation.

• One of New Orleans’ elite brass bands visits the Levitt Pavilion SteelStacks at 7 p.m. The Stooges Brass Band blends the traditional New Orleans brass sound with more contemporary sounds of hip-hop, funk and R&B.

• Other options inside the ArtsQuest Center at SteelStacks include improvisational comedy with The Associated Mess inside the Banko. Tickets are $8, less for students, seniors and ArtsQuest members.

• Classic Albums Live brings The Beatles' Abbey Road to the stage at the Musikfest Café, beginning at 8 p.m. For anyone who ever wore out a vinyl record by playing it over and over again, this show is a magical immersion in memory. Classic Albums Live gathers gifted musicians for live performances of classic rock albums—note for note, cut for cut. Come together—and time-travel to a landmark moment in rock history. Tickets are $39 and $34.
