A city man who had his car stolen as he got a cup of coffee in his house, jumped into another vehicle to chase the thief and his car into the streets of Allentown before a crash ended the pursuit Wednesday morning, Bethlehem police said.

Julio Mateo, 55, of 1960 Hillcrest Road, left his 1997 Honda Accord running in front of his house to let it warm up at a little after 7 a.m., when the thief jumped into the vehicle and drove off, police said.

Mateo got into his minivan and pursued the thief until the two vehicles collided on an Allentown street, police said. The thief ran away from the scene and is being sought by police.
