Bryn Mawr College Awarded $1M Science Grant

The grant will fund initiatives in science and medicine.

 

was recently awarded a $1 million grant from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) to fund educational initiatives in science and medicine.

The grant will fund a tenure-track faculty position for someone with expertise in genomics and bioinformatics, support Bryn Mawr's new Quantitative Center, introduce essential medical school competencies into introductory and intermediate science courses and support Bryn Mawr's STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) Posse, according to a press release.

Bryn Mawr College will contribute $80,000 in additional funding for the grant-funded initiatives, the press release states.

“These schools, collectively among the best in the country at producing graduates who go on to science careers, will assess which elements of their various approaches to science education have been successful and why,” according to the HHMI press release announcing the grants.
