Bryn Mawr Hospital Prepares for Storm
Expectant mothers due to have their babies this weekend should follow safety precautions and plan alternate routes to the hospital, says the Bryn Mawr chief of obstetrics.

prepares throughout the year for potential disasters such as Hurricane Irene, said Bridget Therriault, manager of media relations and communications for Main Line Health.
Maintenance crews went around the hospital campus Friday to make sure any outdoor furniture and other things are secured, Therriault said.
Bryn Mawr Hospital has also made sure generators are ready to go, readied communications systems and prepared sleeping accommodations for hospital staff to stay there overnight.

“We want to ensure we have staffing,” Therriault said. “I don’t think we’re ever able to predict the number of patients that could come to the hospital with something like this, but we want to be prepared.”
Therriault said Main Line Health has also been working closely with Lower Merion Township staff.

Bryn Mawr Hospital Chief of Obstetrics Dr. Philip Hirshman said expectant mothers due to have babies this weekend should be in touch with their obstetrician and should follow precautions like having adequate amounts of water and a full gas tank, Therriault said. They should also plan alternate routes to the hospital and should only call 9-1-1 in the case of an extreme emergency in which they feel they won’t be able to get to the hospital if they need to.
