NWS Extends Excessive Heat Warning Through Sunday

Heat index values could reach up to 103.

The National Weather Service has extended an excessive heat warning for the area, and is in effect from now until 8 p.m. Sunday.

An excessive heat warning means a prolonged period of dangerously hot temperatures combined with high humidity, which can cause a dangerous situation in which heat illness is likely, according to the NWS.

There is a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 8 a.m. Sunday, according to an NWS forecast for the Bryn Mawr area. Heat index values, which is how hot it really feels, could reach up to 103, the excessive heat warning states.

Conditions at night will also remain hot and humid, especially in more urbanized areas, according to the NWS.

Drink plenty of fluids, stay out of the sun and in air-conditioned areas, and dress in loose, light-colored clothing. Remember to check in on older neighbors and relatives, and keep pets inside or in a cool and ventilated location with access to water.
