Report: Defendant Claims Accomplice Stole Ben Franklin Bust in Bryn Mawr

The former Bryn Mawr maid accused of stealing a $3 million bust of Ben Franklin said in court Thursday she acted as lookout while an accomplice broke into the home and took the piece, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported.
Andrea Lawton, 46, of Philadelphia, was arrested Sept. 21 in Maryland and charged with the Aug. 24 theft. The bust was recovered.

The Inquirer reported Lawton told District Court Judge Henry Schireson that a man helped her steal the bust from her former employers, though she did not name him.
Lawton is charged with burglary and several other offenses in Montgomery County and federal court in Philadelphia. Court records show she is incarcerated in lieu of $1 million bail.
