Township Offers Halloween Safety Tips

Lower Merion Township has not established hours for trick-or-treating, but on its website, the Lower Merion Police Department has offered the following tips to ensure safety:

• A parent or responsible adult should always accompany young children on their neighborhood rounds.
• Trick-or-Treaters should use a flashlight so they can see and be seen by others, stay in a group, and only trick-or-treat in well-known neighborhoods at homes that have a porch light on.
• Remain on well-lit streets and always use the sidewalk.
• Never enter a stranger’s home or car for a treat.
• Obey all traffic and pedestrian regulations and always walk—never run across a street.
• Remove any mask or item that will limit eyesight before crossing a street, driveway or alley.
• Never consume unwrapped food items or open beverages that may be offered.
• No treats should be eaten until thoroughly checked by an adult at home.

Citizens who observe any suspicious or unlawful activity should contact the Lower Merion Township Police by dialing 9-1-1 immediately.

In addition to trick-or-treat, the is hosting a haunted house beginning at 5:30 p.m., according to its website. Light refreshments will also be served.
