Council to Address Placement of Fourth of July Parade Chairs Monday
Council is expected to act on a compromise on when the parade chairs can be set out on Pike Street.

Canonsburg Council on Monday is expected to act on a compromise regarding when Fourth of July parade-goers can place their chairs on Pike Street.
While council decided after this past holiday to restrict the placement of chairs to 6 a.m. the day of the parade, a recommendation from Councilman Joe McGarrey would extend that period to 48 hours beforehand.
If approved next week, that would mean that people could place their chairs along the parade route as early as 6 a.m. July 2, borough Manager Terry Hazlett said.

He added that if the measure is approved, public works employees would remove chairs placed out before that date.
At its July meeting, council set the deadline for 6 a.m. July 4 at the recommendation of Police Chief R.T. Bell.

Bell had asked council to make the change because of safety issues associated with chairs being tied together on sidewalks as early the third week of June.
Chairs were also attached to trees with chains, and some residents even marked off entire half-blocks with rope and caution tape.
