Patch Pet of the Month: Hop On This Harley

Do you have room in your heart and home for Harley?

You should have seen the condition I was in when I got here to Angel Ridge Animal Rescue! I had a big bald patch on my back and rear and a rat-tail instead of the lustrous, silky coat and bushy tail that has been slowly coming back.

My ears were so infected, they were oozing and so itchy, it drove me crazy. My owners could not care for me and had to give me up. It was all very sad, but now I’m ready for somebody new.

I don’t care if you are young or old or have kids. It’s all good with me. My name is Harley and I look like a collie-golden retriever mix. Since collies are shepherding dogs, it is fine to call me a shepherd mix, too.

In August, I spent hours and hours at the Washington County Fair in a booth for Angel Ridge meeting and greeting people. There were crowds and noise and activity everywhere, but I remained very calm. Kids were crawling all over me and hugging me.

Big people and strangers with ball caps and sunglasses all stopped to visit with me and I was as gracious as any dog could be.

I am a very good boy on the leash, know the basic commands and am easy to house-train so it won’t be hard to add me to your family. I absolutely hate being confined to a kennel so I bark a lot hoping that someone will take me outside. When I am on a tether outside, I am quiet and much happier.

I just sit and look around and enjoy the fresh air.

As far as other dogs go, I have my likes and dislikes. I can get along with most any calm, confident dog. But I get aroused and feisty when there are dogs running wild, chasing toys and lots of excitement.

I've heard a lot of people say they'd love to own a Harley. Well, here is your chance ... and maybe mine, too.

If you have a question or would like to meet Harley, call Judy at 724-223-9325 or Cindy at 412-576-3445, or email cindy.coupe@verizon.net.
