Township Approves Collective Bargaining Agreement with Police

The agreement calls for members to receive 3.5 percent raises in 2012 and 2013.

supervisors on Tuesday approved a two-year collective bargaining agreement between the township and its police department.

The agreement passed by a vote of 3-0. Supervisor Brian Spicer abstained from voting, telling those in attendance that abstention was because of his son’s position as a police officer. Supervisor Sonia Stopperich was absent.

The agreement, which was approved retroactively to Jan. 1, 2012, runs through Dec. 31, 2013 and calls for the 18 members represented by the North Strabane Police Wage and Policy Unit to receive 3.5 percent raises in both 2012 and 2013.

Additionally, the agreement adds another paid holiday, and calls for members to increase their monthly healthcare premium contributions from $36 to $48.

The new agreement also allows members to carry up to $300 of their clothing allowance from year to year—for a maximum allowance of $1,000 in a calendar year.
