The expected high winds and heavy rain from Hurricane Sandy overnight forced the Chartiers Valley School District to cancel classes Tuesday.

The expected high winds and heavy rain from Hurricane Sandy have prompted Chartiers Valley School District to cancel classes Tuesday.
Chartiers Valley school officials announced the decision shortly before 8 p.m. Monday to give students and their parents the necessary time to make preparations.
They originally planned to postpone classes with a 2-hour morning delay. However, district spokeswoman Kara Droney said they would “continue to monitor the weather and make further updates as needed."

The district plans to use its automated phone notification system to send more updates on Monday night.
