Students Honored For Academic Achievements

More than 70 Chartiers Valley High School students were honored at the first Reception to Recognize Academic Excellence on Wednesday night.

More than 70 students were honored at the first Reception to Recognize Academic Excellence on Wednesday night.

Teachers nominated students because they demonstrated excellence throughout the 2011-12 school year in several of the following categories.

The students who were honored showed they were helpful with peers, demonstrated leadership, gave extra effort, worked well in teams, showed a strong work ethic, had a positive attitude and passion to learn, among many other attributes.

In addition to recognizing academic achievement in 2011-2012, The Chartiers Valley Education Foundation presented scholarships to Jian Wu for Significant Personal or Academic Growth and Christina Moskal for an Exceptional Academic Record. Education Foundation Board President Patti Figorski and board members Missy Holland and Julie Murphy presented the scholarship award.

School District Board President Beth McIntyre and board Director Wendy Huntoon presented the first award of the evening to Gregory Markiw, recipient of the Michael Caporizzo Community Service Scholarship.

"We wanted to create an event that recognizes the hard work and outstanding academic accomplishments of our students,” district spokeswoman Kara Droney said.
