Driver Accused of DUI Allegedly Fled From State Police on I-79

A West Virginia man whom state police say was driving erratically on Interstate 79 before running from troopers will stand trial on DUI and other charges.

Daniel P. Baker, 33, of Fairmont, W.Va., was held for court on charges of driving under the influence of a controlled substance, fleeing police, careless driving and reckless driving during his preliminary hearing with District Judge Maureen McGraw-Desmet on April 1.

State police said they tried to stop Baker along I-79 in Collier Township on Dec. 19 when he refused to pull over. Police did not say how long the chase lasted or which direction he was heading.

Baker is free on $10,000 bond.

• Felony charges of selling counterfeit merchandise and conspiracy against Liangle Sun, 39, of North Versailles, were waived to court. Collier Township police arrested Sun on Jan. 9.

• One charge of selling counterfeit merchandise against Mu Cheng Lin, 41, of Minerva, Ohio, was waived to court while a subsequent charge was withdrawn. Collier Township police charged Lin on Jan. 25.

• Drunken driving charges against Anthony C. Beckman, 23, of Oakdale, were waived to court. Collier Township police arrested Beckman on Feb. 16.

• A fraud charge against Janice Gropelli, 52, of Bridgeville, was waived to court. The state Attorney General’s office charged Gropelli in Bridgeville on Jan. 31.
