Prestley Road Work On Track, Scheduled to Wrap Up in October

It's a round-about detour for now, but work on Prestley Road is on schedule, PennDOT says.

For those who get stuck in the detours around Prestley Road construction, the project might seem more long-lasting than it really is.

But PennDOT spokesperson Steve Cowan said the project to improve the bridge over Chartiers Creek is on schedule with no reported problems, and is about half way to completion.

The work is expected to wrap up in mid-October as originally planned, with a projected end date of Oct. 15, he said.

“Right now they are getting ready to pour the deck for the first phase of this project and in about another month they’ll shift over to the other side of the bridge,” Cowan said. “Everything seems to be going smoothly.”

PennDOT closed a portion of the road in March for a seven-month construction project to rebuild the bridge that carries traffic over Chartiers Creek.

The work includes replacing the bridge deck, installing new bearings and making other roadway improvements.

PennDOT estimates that nearly 6,100 vehicles use Prestley Road in that area each day. This work is part of a $1.6 million construction project.
