Scott Police Officers Will Patrol Rosslyn Farms

The two neighboring municipalities reached a contract agreement for Scott Township to offer police protection for the small borough of 427 people beginning Sept. 1.

The two neighboring municipalities reached a contract agreement for Scott Township to offer police protection for the small borough of 427 people beginning Sept. 1.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported that Rosslyn Farms will pay Scott Township $50,000 for services in 2013. The township beat out other neighboring communities such as Carnegie and Heidelberg that also offered police protection to the borough.

The upcoming retirement of Rosslyn Farms’ police chief and financial savings led the borough council to agree on the contract during a special meeting on May 29, the Post-Gazette reported.

Some area municipalities are moving toward regional police services. McDonald, which straddles the Allegheny and Washington county line, offers police protection for several neighboring communities. The merging of services save money and bolster local patrols so they don’t have to rely on state police.
