Special Seminar Planned About Slave Life on Neville Plantation

At the time of the Whiskey Rebellion in 1794, enslaved individuals outnumbered the family members at Bower Hill and Woodville Plantation by a ratio of 5 to 1.

On Sunday, June 9, Woodville Plantation in Collier Township will present a seminar to shed light on this long-overlooked population of the Neville estate.

Join African American historian, Temujin Ekunfeo, for an in-depth discussion of the life of the enslaved individuals at Woodville Plantation.

Rob Windhorst, president of the Neville House Associates, will also present information on the individuals that managed the slave population, the overseers.

Guests can join Historic Foodways Director of the Neville House Associates Erin Windhorst as she prepares several foods that would have been eaten by the slaves at Woodville.

The program will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Admission is free for members, $10.00 for non-members and limited to 20 people. Advance registration is required. Interested participants are asked to pre-pay and register by mail. Registration fees are non-refundable. Please call (412) 221-0348 to pre-register or if you have any questions.
