MSA Thruway Project Slated To Start In Cranberry
The tunnel project should relieve traffic congestion along Route 228.

CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP, PA - Construction is slated to begin next week on the $12 million MSA Thruway linking the Cranberry Springs development and the Cranberry Woods Business Park.
The project includes construction of a 150-foot underpass that will link the business park and Cranberry Springs. The thruway will provide alternative access to those developments for vehicles, pedestrians and bicycles and should reduce traffic congestion in the Route 228 corridor.
Daytime paving is scheduled to begin May 11 from and will occur from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Traffic lanes will be shifted to the north beginning May 16 to allow for tunnel excavation work to begin.
State officials believe the project will help create more than 2,300 permanent full-time jobs and more than 4,000 temporary construction jobs.

Traffic will be maintained on Route 228 throughout the project, which is expected to be completed by the winner of 2021. The project is expected to reduce the queue from I-79 Northbound by 40 percent during peak morning hours. Eastbound traffic on Route 228 at the Cranberry Springs-Cranberry Woods intersection will be reduced by 30 percent.
Average delays should be reduced by 33 percent.
