Cranberry Township honors outgoing police chief Kevin Meyer after nearly 30 years of service (butlereagle.com) — Cranberry Township is preparing for a major transition as longtime police chief Kevin Meyer retires at the end of the year after nearly three decades of service, including 10 years leading the department. Township supervisors honored him at their final 2025 meeting and introduced new chief Kenneth Ruckel, a former Allegheny County Police commander, who has already started guiding local public safety operations.
   

2. Cranberry supervisors approve 2.5 mill tax increase as part of 2026 budget (butlereagle.com) — Cranberry Township supervisors have approved a 2026 budget that raises real estate taxes by 2.5 mills to fund a new Recreational Investment Fund for parks, trails, and open space. The $109.5 million plan keeps other tax rates steady while backing upgrades at Graham Park, Community Park North, Powell Farm, and key water and sewer infrastructure projects.
   

3. Cranberry CUP president Bertolino appointed township supervisor (butlereagle.com) — Cranberry Township supervisors have appointed longtime resident and Cranberry CUP president Anthony Bertolino to fill a board vacancy, with his term running through early 2028. Known for decades of hands-on community service and fundraising, he’ll be sworn in at the township’s January reorganization meeting and says he plans to bring his uniting, community-first approach to township leadership.
   

4. Two in Hot Water Over Criminal Mischief Incident in Cranberry Township (explorevenango.com) — State police recently handled a criminal mischief case along East State Road in Cranberry Township, where spinning tires and flying rocks damaged two parked trucks. A Portsmouth, Ohio woman pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct, and a Seneca man was arrested separately on alleged drug violations, with additional charges still pending.
   

5. Skinner's postseason experience helped Jarry trade make ‘sense' for Penguins (nhl.com) — Cranberry-based Penguins fans are seeing a major shakeup in goal, as longtime starter Tristan Jarry has been traded from the team’s Cranberry practice home to the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for playoff-tested goalie Stuart Skinner and other assets. Management says Skinner’s deep postseason experience and added draft capital made the move logical as Pittsburgh pushes for another playoff run.
