Keystone Oaks To Honor Ex-Congressman Ron Paul

DORMONT, PA - Ron Paul, the former U.S. representative from Texas who unsuccessfully ran three times for president, will be one of three recipients of the Keystone Oaks School District 2018 Alumni Achievement Award.

Paul, 82, graduated from Dormont High School in 1953. He served as a Texas congressman for 26 years between 1976 and 2012. The Green Tree native was the Libertarian Party’s presidential nominee in 1988, and was a presidential candidate in the Republican primaries 2008 and 2012.

Before entering politics, he earned his medical degree from Duke University’s School of Medicine, served as a flight surgeon in the U.S. Air Force and worked as an obstetrician-gynecologist. Since retiring from Congress in 2013, he has founded the Ron Paul Institute for Peace and Prosperity, a foreign policy think tank that is a project of his Foundation for Rational Economics & Education.

He is the father of Rand Paul, the junior U.S. senator from Kentucky.

Joining Paul as this year’s alumni achievement award winners are Ben O’Connor, a 1994 Keystone Oaks graduate who currently is a Fox Chapel Area High School counselor and youth sports coach; and Kirk Pyros, a 1985 Keystone Oaks graduate, owner of Full circle Development Co. and volunteer member of the Strike Team 1 rescue squad.

“It is an honor to be able to recognize the accomplishments of these graduates and commend them for the pride that they bring to the Keystone Oaks School District,” Superintendent William Stropkaj said in a district release. “Their personal and professional accomplishments are truly remarkable and will undoubtedly serve as a source of inspiration for the class of 2018.”
