'Scouting for Food' This Saturday in Dormont

Cub Scout Pack 870 and Boy Scout Troop 23 will be collecting food in Dormont this Saturday, April 13.

If you found a plastic bag at your door last Saturday—some with the Kuhn's Market logo—it was just part of the preparation for this year's Scouting for Food event.

This Saturday, April 13, Cub Scout Pack 870 and Boy Scout Troop 23 will be walking through Dormont, collecting donations as part of the Scouting for Food Drive they sponsor each year.

On April 6, the scouts placed plastic bags on residents' doors (and when they ran out of bags, scout leaders said Kuhn's generously filled in the deficit).

Residents wishing to donate can fill the bags with non-parishable food items, and leave the bags on the edge of their porches, in view from the street, for pickup before 9 a.m.

Assistant Scoutmaster Kevin Kelly said the two troops have been sponsoring Scouting for Food for more than 20 years, and typically collect 4,000 items or more each year. The collections are donated to Brookline Christian Food Pantry.
